Firefighters responded to 2201 S. Lemay Ave. at about 11:55 a.m. today on a report of a structure fire. When they arrived, they encountered a small fire in one of the apartments. The fire was completely extinguished by the building’s sprinkler system.
The apartment sustained minor smoke and water damage. Without the sprinkler system, this fire could have caused extensive damage and possible loss of life.
The only occupant of the apartment at the time of the fire was a cat. Fortunately, because of the quick sprinkler activation, the cat was not injured.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
We would like to thank our great partners at Fort Collins Police Services and UCHealth EMS for their assistance today.
PFA reminds people to be especially careful during this Holiday season, as some decorations can cause fires.
